The West Virginia State Capitol is located on Route 60 in Charleston. The Coal Miners and War Veterans Memorial can be found behind the Cultural Center on the Capitol grounds. This picture taken on April 16th, 10 days after a disater at the Upper Big Branch Mine claimed the lives of 25 men. Four men remained missing until April 10th, when the death toll rose to 29 from this mining tragedy. Wreaths were placed at the bottom of the miners' statue in honor of those lost.
