Like most of the ornate Spanish Colonial buildings in Balboa Park, the Casa del Prado was built for the 1913-15 California-Panama Exposition, although the serviceable stage inside this building is much less grand than its facade might lead you to expect. That doesn't bother most of the community companies that play here, including the San Diego Junior Theater and the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet. Behind those heavy oak doors, the house is reminiscent of a '60s-era movie theater and seats about 600.
